Solid State Inorganic Chemistry
We aim to understand and exploit the factors (strain, composition, band structure etc.) that determine structure and function in the crystalline solid state. Our interest is in the balance between local crystal chemistry, strain and longer range order in a wide range of compositionally and/or displacively flexible crystalline solids. The principal experimental research tools used are solid stat...
متن کاملCo‐existence of Distinct Supramolecular Assemblies in Solution and in the Solid State
The formation of distinct supramolecular assemblies, including a metastable species, is revealed for a lipophilic guanosine (G) derivative in solution and in the solid state. Structurally different G-quartet-based assemblies are formed in chloroform depending on the nature of the cation, anion and the salt concentration, as characterized by circular dichroism and time course diffusion-ordered N...
متن کاملSupramolecular interactions in the solid state
In the last few decades, supramolecular chemistry has been at the forefront of chemical research, with the aim of understanding chemistry beyond the covalent bond. Since the long-range periodicity in crystals is a product of the directionally specific short-range intermolecular interactions that are responsible for molecular assembly, analysis of crystalline solids provides a primary means to i...
متن کامل[Supramolecular chemistry of multinuclear zinc(II) complexes in aqueous solution].
We report novel supramolecular polyhedrons formed by three-dimensional self-assembly of multinuclear zinc(II)-12-membered tetraamine (= cyclen = 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane) complexes with potentially multidentate ligands such as cyanuric acid (CA) and trithiocyanuric acid (TCA) in aqueous solution. Two new supermolecular frameworks were isolated by self-assembly of a tris (Zn(2+)-cyclen) (Z...
متن کاملChallenges and opportunities in solid-state chemistry*
We are largely unable to predict the composition and crystal structure of new extended structure compounds. Yet we find that as materials become more complex in stoichiometry and structure, new, interesting, and perhaps useful, phenomena are encountered. The need for improved experimental and theoretical approaches to seize more rapidly the opportunities provided in this complexity is discussed.
